The One Celebrity Who Still Supports R. Kelly—You Won’t Believe Who

In the wake of R. Kelly's conviction on charges including racketeering and sex trafficking, the majority of the entertainment industry has distanced itself from the disgraced R&B singer. However, a few individuals have continued to express support for him, sparking controversy and debate.

Erykah Badu's Controversial Remarks

One notable figure is neo-soul artist Erykah Badu. During a 2019 concert in Chicago, Badu offered a prayer for R. Kelly, stating, "I hope he sees the light of day if he's done all those things that we've seen on TV and heard those ladies talk about." Her comments received mixed reactions from the audience, with both cheers and boos. Badu later clarified on Twitter that while she loves unconditionally, she does not support poor choices.

Bow Wow's Defense of R. Kelly

Rapper Bow Wow has also publicly defended R. Kelly, referring to him as the "R&B GOAT" and comparing him to Michael Jackson. In a recent interview, Bow Wow expressed his admiration for Kelly's musical contributions, despite the serious allegations and convictions against him.

Joycelyn Savage's Continued Support

Joycelyn Savage, one of R. Kelly's longtime girlfriends, has remained a steadfast supporter. In a letter to a federal judge prior to Kelly's sentencing, Savage described him as her fiancé and stated that he is "not the monster that the government has described him to be." She has consistently defended him, disputing claims that she was held against her will.

The Broader Industry Response

While these individuals have maintained their support, the broader entertainment industry has largely condemned R. Kelly's actions. Artists such as Lady Gaga, John Legend, and Chance the Rapper have publicly denounced him and removed collaborative works from streaming platforms. The #MuteRKelly movement continues to advocate for accountability and justice for survivors.

The ongoing discourse surrounding R. Kelly highlights the complexities of separating art from the artist and the responsibilities of public figures in addressing allegations of abuse.
